I am thinking about buying a toad. Something small like a small jeep. Does a jeep make a good toad? I want a short wheel base and something heavy duty enough to pull a 2000 lb trailer when I am not using it as a toad. After seeing a guys 1999 GMC 1500 with a 120v generator integrated into the engine, I am thinking this is not a bad way to get a little extra power. For what--I don't know but you can always use more power. However, the GMC is too big. His truck was more quite then any genset I have heard and its output was about 60 amps. Considering the above, I want to find out what toads are availble with a built in generator. Anybody have a good ideas? |

If I was following the ads, I think GMC started adding that feature a year or two ago. I have not seen it advertised on any other manufacturer yet. I originally thought it was just an inverter to give 120vac from the vehicle but it does not surprise me to hear it is a Genset. As we are always looking for different types of power sources, the article had caught my eye. cd |

I also thought it was only a couple of years ago that GM had the 120v plugs. That is why I asked what year truck he had. Maybe the 1999 unit was some kind of add on. If so can we find one for other vehicles. Also, I would agree that it would make sense that the 120v was from some type of inverter. I don't know for sure but I may have misspoke when I called it a generator. Hope someone has seen other setups. Have a great day. |

Without being able to find anything but vague specificatons on that GMC hybird electric pickup tuck I am only guessing on its design-but- GM states that you can generate "6 kw for up to 30 hours", reading between the lines-does this mean until the gas tank is empty. If that is what is ment I am just wondering how big the gas tank is, (doesn't sound to fuel/wear efficent and what would the engine RPM be to gegnerate 6 kw . At first glance it did intrest me as a muti purpose toad/generator. If the system uses regenerative braking then it is may be similar to the HONDA EU alternator/invertor setup. The web sit stated that the engine shuts off on long idol times so does that mean it uses the generating system as a starter. Would like to know real design facts. The web site says limited distribution. Perhaps we just need wait a little longer before a suitable OEM comprimiss hits the market or build our own Hybid (just 4 bolts right). |

You seem to have a lot more info than I do right now. I tried to look it up on the wwweb but GMC isn't listing the JIMMY anymore, that was the truck that I believe I saw it advertised in. You might be able to go to a GMC or Chevrolet dealer and talk to a sales man or service. Perhaps even the parts guy could tell you something more. I know I saw it, I just didn't want to spend that kind of money at the time for a new toy. Good luck cd |

The truck is interesting. I wonder how much it is going to cost. Now can we get something like that in a small tow vehicle. Or can we get some kind of add on? |
