I just spoke to the Alisson dealer who diagnosed the problem. He said that the converter was "not getting lock up" which led him to believe that the "cylindar or some part of the converter "might be" cracked...could be as simple as a seal<?> The price quote was $2800 for parts for a complete rebuild...an estimated total of $3500 parts+labor He also thinks that there is another problem (he believes the engine's not producing enough power). This shouldn't be correct as the engine is new(rebuild) just put it in...was dynoed...could this be another problem it the tranny? Or??? Thanks for your help so far. |

everybody's just guessing at this point.... there could be a blown seal on the piston that holds the lock-up clutch engaged... still gotta come out, come apart to repair even that...seals deteroirate (sp) from wear, age, sitting, contamination, heat..lots of stuff... (i'm guessing without actually tearing down your transmission)...as far as low power, the engine may not be reaching the full throtle necessary to make the allison shift properly... something as simple as a linkage adjustment.... again, i'm guessing.... |

after talking to our shop forman about your allison, he suggested that the engine may not be turning enough rpm's to make the transmission go to "lock up"... the torque convertor locks up from a signal from governor pressure... and if the engine is not turning fast enoug, you won't get the correct signal... fix the engine problem first...then see if you still have a transmission problem.... |
