Alaska Truck center just called and they said the drive Shaft in my bus just spins by hand so something must have broken when they were trying to get the brakes to release for towing...This is bad...They have to pull some of the rear end Axle Rods (or something) to diagnose it the differential just spins..I'm having echo's of Rayhound's problem here....These guys have never worked on this kind of Bus and no one up here knows anything about them so I need some sources to call for parts and ideas about what could be wrong...They also found that both the rear end brake cans are leaking and need to be replaced and of course they can't get parts up here for them... so I really need the expert and parts list so I can begin calling. It seems this is going to fall on me with your help to take care of and being in Alaska compounds the problem..It's 1:24pm here and that makes it 5:24pm on the east coast, so US Coach is closed for the day... This bus drove perfectly until it was hooked up and towed to the truck center for fix my air leak problem...The tow company broke it while trying to get the brakes to release, as they were frozen to the drums. The nightmare begins. |

Sean Have them check to see if they didnt break the weld on the driveshaft and the u-joint yoke, sounds funny but i broke the weld on the one in my Kenworth once.I could put it in gear and the drive shaft just spun on the yoke shoulder, the rear end was ok the driveshaft wasnt welded right. They should have pulled the axles anyway to tow the busand they should have know how to unfreeze brake linings given where they are located. Good Luck Lee 66 01 |

Sean Sorry to hear you are having problems. Was it the wicked witch of the west that said you have to start at the begining? Tell us how this all started. Sometimes it's all interrelated. Bill |

Bill...they came to tow the bus...Brakes were frozen and would not release...tried to get them to release many times, finally had to get under there and manually relase them but before that happened I think they were putting it in and out of gear, trying to get the brake to release and one of those times they must have jerked something and snapped something in the differential... AK truck, says the drive shaft is fine, it's all connected etc...just spinning in the differential...something snapped in there as a result of whatever the idiot towing people were trying to do to get my brakes to release so they could tow...That's all I have...>Bus was in PERFECT running order and I had drivin it around the lot where it was even though the front would not air up... |

Yep, at this point it will at the very least, need to have it's axles pulled, if you are very very lucky, they broke one of the axles, it split cleanly, and did no further damage. Brian |

I would just leave it there. Rent a truck for your move. Get to where your going buy a hwy coach. That bus is just a old city bus? Not converted? If so its not worth fixing. Leave it buy a differnt bus if your looking for a transit type thay are almost free. Brian 4905 Klamath Falls Oregon |

A 35' bus is hard to find. A busted shaft, most likely (hopefully). They have insurance to cover the repair, insist they fix it and do it right. If they balk, go to an attorney and start making a list of all the things that you're going to need in absence of the service of your bus. They will have to pay for everything. And I do mean "everything". If you need to get a hotel/motel room, food, clothes... anything that you need because your broken bus is causing delays, is chargeable and rightfully so. That's why they have insurance. People should be made to bear the responsibility of their actions. |

This is an MC5C...Not a transit bus..I have $5000 dollars in it and i can't just leave it here..It was a PERFECTLY running bus that developed an air leak from sitting..Had to have it towed to get it fixed..It was -1 degree and the brakes were frozen...I can't prove the tow company broke it but that had to have because i had been driving it around the lot prior, trying to figure out where my air leak was etc..The engine has a recent overhaul 6v-71 and has an Automatic 4 speed allison trans....I don't think it's worth losing my $5000 over... The drive shaft is FINE..Not broken at all..Whatever it is, is in the differential.. |

Sean, 'Anything you say may be held against you in a court of law'.... they DID break it. The fact that it worked just prior to the tow and that they don't know anything about your bus supports this. Don't even suggest to them that you can't "prove" this. Don't let them get away with screwing up your bus. Gillig-Dan |

Sean, Echoing Gillig-dan. The act speaks for itself. The drive train was ok prior to moving, busses can be moved safely if properly done, they moved it and it was broke. It's their problem to show what happened wasn't caused by them. Onward and Upward. |

chunks of gear coming out the rear end so far..I've got bad trouble and the bus may be junk...Put a call into the Tow company..Not expecting much and I don't see any recourse..Can't fight it..I'm moving in 2 weeks...What, am I to do, fly up here for court and potentially lose more money? These guys up here haven't even gotten the rear end out...They have never done this before. No one works on these buses up here. I may have had a chance if I were in the lower 48 but I'm on a desert island up here...I'll be a lucky man If i Don't lose $5000.....my shop bill has to be over a grand in labor so far as well.... Does anyone think I can sell the engine and Tranny..It's a very nicely running 6v-71 and an automatica Allison 740 4 speed tranny i believe....It's lookin bad up here in AK |
