I searched the archives for answers to the following with no luck.
Dave has removed the metal shield that lined the engine compartment (looks like pegboard) and the fiberglass insulation so he can repair some of the wood. What kind of insulation should go back in that is safe for this area? Should the metal shield go back, or replace it with something else? When the wood is replaced, he feels that it should be coated to protect from moisture also. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Metal shield is good fire protection for chassis.

There's better sound absorbing material than the fiberglas - it can get pretty expensive but is considered worth it.

If you seal the wood, be sure to seal all edges/sides.

wwwsoundown,com

Should get you to a good site for noise conterol.

The really best they have to offer has lead sheet suspended between 2 layers of foam.

AS its for boats the surface can be ordered non flamable , but boat stuff is NOT inexpensive.

For just a bit of sound controll there are spray on goops that help a bit , but not enough for a Diesel gen set.
