I have a 1973 MC7 with a 8v71 the tach wire is not hooked up. Where does it hook on the motor?
Can't find a crank trigger or a trigger off the cam. Thanks

Hi Lee
Depends on the tach. If it's an electronic tach with a pickup sensor, it probably senses the flywheel teeth..Look at the bottom of the bell housing for a sensor... If it's the pulse type electronic that gets it's pulse from the alternator, then it hooks to the regulator terminal of the alternator...
Hope this helps

That's the "R" terminal for "relay", not the wire that goes to the regulator (field wire). The relay prevents the A/C load from running unless the alternator is charging. It is actually an AC signal that will trigger the tach. I'm sure Phil knew this, I'm just trying to clear it up a little. FWIW

Jim's right ... The 'R' terminal is for Relay and that's what I meant..anyway it's the terminal with the pulses on it that the tach can read.
Phil in Az.. Thanks Jim for the correction
