Does anyone know if you can increase the top RPM on a 6V92TA DDEC IV engine or is it a programming issue. Full load rpm is only 2100. A bit slow on the interstates at times. Thanks. Bill |

It is a programming issue. I don't know if the hand held readers some of the people that frequent here will allow changing it or not? Probby have to have the software for that and u can guess who has that. |

If you CAN re-gear it somehow, even if it's just via tire swap, you oughta. If you can spend the $2k for a differencial gear alteration (assuming that's an option in your critter) you're probably LONG TERM ahead of the game in terms of milage and wear and tear on that motor. Big up-front cost though, and it doesn't help with hills. Then again, I kinda doubt upping the revs will help peak power that much either, but I'm not sure of that (still just dealing with "book knowledge" and will readily admit that). |

I kind of thought that it was a programming issue. I know who has that and I don't think with the EPA ratings on the engine they will up the top RPM's. Probably will not be allowed with that program. Maybe I will relook at the O/D for a V731 from Bill Teal. I have all the parts needed to do it but I don't know if there is enough room after the flywheel as in the 8V71 it was designed for. Thanks fellows for your input. Bill |

Spend the $1000 or soosss (maybe more) to the secret notebook computer guy who works at Detroit Diesel who has the super secret codes and he MAY be able to "set up" your 6V92TI DD 1V to "military specs". Depending upon where you live and the smog laws within, he MAY be able to kill two birds with five minutes by reprogramming your engine's computer. POSSIBLE to give you 2500 rpm and 500 hp or sooss, but then he and you may have to kill yourselves before you do it because of of some shortened engine life. But life is too short, soosss give it a try. |

Henry I have tried to approach DD guys and they are pretty close mouthed about things like this. I still have a few contacts at DD that might pay off and if not I will enjoy the senery as I go along at 65mph. The only other option is the Bill Teal O/D as I mentioned and I know it works but I have to try and see if it is feasible for the 92. Space restrictions might make it a no go. My coach is heavy at 36580lbs (I know FF says go on a diet) with the car in tow so I don't want to change the rear end to a different ratio and lose the bottom end. I have a 4.56 to 1 now. Bill |

Bill-- if your engine is governed at 2100 full load then that is the correct setting-- you don't want to drive it at a higher rpm for any extended time as it will wear your engine out prematurely. As I understand it the added gear setup for the V730 will not work with the bigger flywheel of the 92 series (BTW, people have been doing this setup long before Bill Teal). If you want more speed you really need to change over to the 4:10-- that is what I did and I used to run a 4:56. If you have 350 HP, the 4:10 does okay, even pulling a toad up a hill. However, if you are stuck with 277 HP then you better just stick to the 4:56! --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

Thanks Guys. I will have to be happy with sight seeing as we go and meet the rest when we get there. Geoff. I fear you are right because when I talked to Bill Teal he didn't think there was enough room. Bill |

Hey, this isn't so bad.... I'll get better fuel economy when I run with Bill! Bill, you could go back to the 8V71... Yeah, I know. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Why don'tcha' just drive it to a Greyhound bus garage and tell the mechanic to open 'er up for ya'? It should do 55 in third and run out well over 75 in fourth... For some $$$ in a pocket you'll get what you want. |
