Nice idea, TD. They'd pretty much be a blind spot eliminator"", methinks. A couple of ePlace trunk keyhole cams and a composite (yellow RCA plug) video switcher would be all you'd need if you already have a monitor. I'd look for models that have 100 deg. views or better and some decent low-light performance. You might could even be able to mount them on the roof, pointing down each side of your Eagle... if the angle's wide enough. BB |

I would think they would be more beneficial than mounting on the BACK like EVERYBODY does..I'm more interisted in what's going on ...on the side |

I think the back cam is handy for when you back into campsites, etc. But, the side cam., esp. the passenger side, would be used a lot more often. I try to back up as little as humanly possible, because with the Spicer it feels like you're going 30mph. BB |

I'm going to mount one of my cameras in the back for backing up and watching the toad, and hopefully to catch a mechanical problem early. But the other camera is going above the front door to watch the passenger side... Brian |

The only downside is that a "regular" camera doesn't reverse the image. Everything you see in your monitor will seem "backwards" right to left. Frinstance, I use one of those cameras for my back of the rig camera, and whenever somebody comes up to pass on the left, it looks like they are sneaking around on the right, and vice versa. OTOH, if your monitor has reversal capability, then that would solve it also. Once you get used to using it as a binary "is they is or is they aint" somebody over there, then it would work fine despite the backwards aspect. jp |

Was a post on reversing tv image. I did it on mine and it worked great. Was very easy to do. Bruce H8H-649 |

I have a older quad (4 camera) system and intend to put one on each side, front & back. It will give a bit of security when I am parked and away (I don't worry much about driving vission as I have driven plenty of trucks, but it never hurts as long as it doesn't distract and could be helpful on a narrow toad on long strait roads). I had used it to keep a eye on the shop and as a deterance in the past and ran it into a VCR. The system can display all 4 cameras at once or rotate through one camera at a time with variable speed. The cameras even have motion detectors that can be used as alarm triger and 2 way intercom, could be run to a computer (instead of VCR) and routed to a video cell phone if I wanted to attend to callers or intruders when I am away. It is amazing how far $1,000 went to solve my pasr problems and give me a peace of mind (had lots of bad experiences in the past with vandels, thieves, nuts and expensive make believe insurance policys). I guess a further rationalizatin would be eveidence in the event of a accident (other guys fault). I was amazed at the stuff that showed up over the 3 years I had the system running, along with the bit of "culture shock" backlass the neighbors gave me (until it turn into them beggin for me to check the tapes for there own incidents of theft and vandalism from the little AFS mosnsters around here). Sure did help to start cleaning up the neighborhood, so it was worth mild intrusion of privacey to everyone and the cost (which was far less than dealing with thives. |

TD: Break a mounting bracket on your tow bar sometime and you will appreciate that camera that "watches" your toad, like when my Ranger front frame disintegrated where the base plate was mounted while exiting the ferry on the Outer Banks recently. Fortunately, I had safety cables extending further back on the frame that kept my truck out of the Atlantic and a camera that immediately "showed" me a tracking problem with the toad. |

2D, what kind of monitor are you thinking about using? Do you have a laptop? You could use that for a monitor. For you tinker-ers out there...a down and dirty pan & scan camera mount can be built out of automotive remote mirror hardware, either electric or the manual cable joystick type. It doesn't have the greatest travel range but enuff for a side view camera...very handy for a curb side cam. Bones |

If it is cameras you seek take a peek at these guys. After having problems with car prowlers I got one of these cameras that comes on with a motion detector. http://www.x10.com/cameras/index.html |

Twodogs, X-10 cams are 12v. I have a few of them, they are built more for home use and are powered by wall transformers...12v. I used one in my car off a ciggy lighter plug. They also have a battery pack available, holds 8 AAs. Bones |

You'd need a dc/dc adapter from RatShack, since it runs on 8 volts. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=715474&CatId=13 22 For what it's worth.. I bought a 70w, 12vdc to 100vac inverter that WalMart always seem to have for under $15. It runs my laptop, etc nicely. So for under $15 bucks, you can use any of there "cube powered" devices. |

I must correct myself...sort of. The X-10 cams I have are all 12v including the wireless senders. After looking at the X10 site I see the newer XCam2 units have battery packs that use 4 AA batteries. If my math is correct...1.5 times....carry the 2....adjust for pie...comes to 6 volts. I hope I didn't steer anyone wrong. Bones |
