IF the same coolant has been in your coach for a bunch of years its long past time to discard it.

OR if you just got your new baby home , before ripping the interior to shreads , order DA Book , and begin doing the normal maint that your coach requires.

The coolant {antifreez} in a coach is totally different ftom whats in an automobile.

The coolant in a DIESEL will have SCA { suplimentary cooling addatives} .

This stuff coats every part with a slime that is very important.

AS a diesel fires the cylinder walls ring like a bell, this causes liquid next to the cylinder wall to cavitate ,

air bubbles come out , caused by the sudden lowering of pressure.

The SCA holds the cavitation a tiny distance from the cylinder walls , stoping the destructive cavitation from eating the cylinder walls from the outside in.

This SCA wears out , OR can get too concentrated , and since its everywhere in the cooling system can easily cause overheating.

SO you should at least flush the system, cleaners can help ,too.

You should try flushing {cheap} first.

Drain entire system , refill with ONLY clean water, run engine ON ROAD!!! till warm , operate heaters , defrosters ect, go home and drain thru all {theres a bunch} of outlets.

DO this at least 3 times !

You will not loose much cylinder walls running with no SCA if you dont lug the engine, while flushing.

Disconnect a hose {have spare ready , hose welds itself to the engine in time} and feel inside of hose and block.

IF its relativly clean of slime , and water has been real clean on draining , its time for a mix of antifreze and distilled water.

50/50% is usual mix , but you can go as low as 35 % antifreez and still get benifits of SCA.

I only buy the coolant for a DD at the DD store.

Penny wise and pound foolish, doesnt help on a $10,000 engine.

They will also have a kit ($10.00 or so} for checking the state of the required SCA every 6 months .

Da Book has procedure for venting air from any heaters or defrosters and can show you all the many drain points.

IF you need a 2 part cleaner the DD guy has good stuff for about $50 that will do a couple of coaches.

Flush even more if you use the 2 part cleaner.

The flush procedure should be done at least every 3 years, as the antifreez also has many other chemicals in the additive package that gets used up.

Sam:

When you see a mention of "Da Book", that means the maintenance manual for your particular vehicle.
