I have the V730 loose from the engine (6V92) but I can only slide it out about 3 inches. It seems the shaft is catching on the engine side and won't let it move more. The shaft seems to be tight on the V730 side and slides out from the engine about 3 inches and then hangs up. Is the shaft supposed to be free on both ends? I'm taking tranny out because there's no power thru it. I'm told that the shaft or some kind of plate on the engine side is probably broken. I tried to take a round plate off the engine side that the shaft goes thru but the bolts turn freely so you have to be on both sides. There's another larger plate behind that but it got dark so I quit for the nite. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim |

I don't have a spacer between the engine and tranny. Also, the tranny has a manual cable gear selector but the tag on the tranny says V731. I thought the V730 and V731 were different? |

Jim I think the bolts that you might have being trying to removed are the bolts that hold the springs on to the flex plate. Those bolts do have a nut in the back. Just to the outside of that at a larger circumference, their are about 6 to 8 bolts that hold the flex plate to the flywheel. Your trans. should come right out. Hope that will help. AL |

Finally got it out. The spring holder for the shaft (I have a snap ring instead of a cup) on the engine side had come off and let the shaft go so far into the engine that it was past the splines and out of mesh. Also turned out to be the only thing wrong and why there was no power out of the tranny. Thanks. |
