I need to reomve the rear wheels to replace an air bag on my 5307. Outside wheel was no problem, but inside wheel is being stubborn. The studs on the rear have a 1" square lug on the end. Do these studs actually hold on the inner wheel? "Da Book" I have shows a plain stud on the rear with both wheels sandwiched and held on by the one set of nuts. P.S. Yes I have an abundance of blocking and am taking every safety precaution suggested on this board. Sorry for the noobie question, but I know you guys have been there and done that. Thanx, Mike. |

that is the description of a bud wheel....yes a special 1" square lug socket is made for the inner...available at any truck supply...there is a reversable one to fit both inner & outer to fit 1" drive wrenches... |

TD is correct. I've also seen it spelled "budd". Make sure you pay attention to the "handedness" of the threads, also. The left side of the bus will have reverse threads and should have an "LH" imprinted on the bolt. HTH, BB |

as 2D stated you can get the proper socket from truck repair shops or harbour freight may have them , also chech the pawn shops or second hand stores they some times have them and a lot cheaper the new. the best to buy is the 3/4" drive socket as you can use it with the rest of your 3/4 drive set with out having to buy other pieces. if the inner nut is hard to get off try putting a little heat to it and the tap it on the end just hard enough to jar the rust that is bonding it to the wheel.be sure the when you replace the wheels that you tourqe the bown to the right # i use 500# how ever the local bus companys use 550#, a 10 bar jumped on is not the right way to do it as when you move the bus the studs will start to shear off. just go to your local truck tire guy and ask to rent his wrenck for 1/2 hour . when you get the socket put it away as all your buddies will want to take it home and it will never come back, and be sure you mark it so you know it when you see it as they are not cheap to buy. |

I never heard of a 1" square head on a Budd wheel inner nut. I just checked my Snap-on catalogue and they don't have one either. The standard inner nut is 13/16" square and that is available from all the name brand tool companies and most have it as a combination to fit both the outer and inner nuts. Snap-on has 1" square sockets in all sizes but the socket they call a Budd wheel socket is 13/16". |

Just checked with my Snap-On guy and he also states that a standard Bud wheel socket is 13/16". My eyeball needs calibration I guess! He's dropping one by this afternoon and I'll try it out. Thanx, Mike. |

All my books (Dodge and GMC) show 400-450lb-ft of torque for Budd wheels. Be sure to check your book. |

$64.00 from snap on, I got one to fit 3/4" gun .Becouse most newer 3/4" guns will put out the 400 to 450+ to install them . May need a bigger gun to bust them lose. Also found a 3/4" gun for $10. at a pawn shop. Brian 4905 Klamath Falls Oregon |
