My 60 footer has an interesting hydraulic system for the joint... It has a minor leak, and during the trip home last week, fell below the desired PSI. Although it seems to continue functioning, I am reading zero pressure on the gauge under the panel.

The New Flyer technician I talked to said it would need to be repressurized externally, through the accumulator tank, using T15 high-grade oil, and pressurized with Nitrogen gas....

Who the hell would I talk to in order to get this done? Is it something any hydro shop can help me with, or is this going to be a bugger to hunt down to get this thing repressurized (and the leak fixed.... which appears to be at the fill fitting, of all places!) ???

Hello again Mac;
If I were you I would call the nearest transit company that uses artics and find out what they do. This is something they deal with regularly, and it's important that it's done right.
Other than that, I hope your trip went well.
Good luck...Cable...'53-4104

Might also check with Prevost, they seem to know how to maintain their stuff. Nearest branch to you is in Ft Worth tx. Good people. Doesn't hurt to call and ask. While their parts are a little on the high side, they are not prohibitively so. Open an account, they ship "for free" and fast too. hold open rods / gas struts whatever you call them are $27 each delivered. For some things they will be the best supplier.

I suspect the service manager will know just what you need. When I was driving through the area, and broke a belt at 11pm on Thanksgiving eve, he was prepared to personally deliver me a new one. I was about 70 miles away at the time.

Great story you told, I sent it to all my friends to show them what a real bus nut will do. Best of luck with the monster, best of luck in Iraq and best of luck getting your wife freed. We are all wanting to hear how it all turns out.

Cable... No transit company even close to me uses artics... The transit company here is owned/operated by the city. They seem to use Gilligs almost exclusively (I think that's what they are).

Jim... rods/struts?? Huh? Now I'm confused. :-) What I'm talking about is the articulation mechanism... It's a high pressure hydraulic system that locks the "bend" in place above 35mph or so, so that it doesn't "wiggle" around on you at higher speeds... It keeps the thing stable so you can actually travel with it without finding your midsection in someone elses lane! (That would be really bad)... :-)

And thanks... I'll keep everyone as updated as possible. They do have iNet access from where I'm planning to go, so I'll at least be able to hop in now and again to say hello. :-) My true main concern is getting my wife out.... If it weren't for that, I'd just get a local job so that I could work on the bus... but she needs a real lawyer, not one of these cracker-jack jobs the court appoints.

A Industrial supply that deals is hydraulic equipment may be able to help or a hydraulic repair shop.

To have the systen charged, you might try your local aircraft repair shop, as some of the struts are nitrogen filled. For repairs, I don't know

Sorry for the confusion. I only mentioned the rods and struts as an example of price. and it seems like you need some after getting whacked in the head a few times, I suspect by one or more of those doors...

Anyway my advice still stands, contact Prevost about the articulated joint, they will know whats the best way to deal with it.
