I've been waiting a week to see if a lady wants to take my money or not. she says there's another guy that was interested in them but hasn't heard from him in a while so I have to wait while she tracks him down to see if he wants them. Hope he takes them for her sake cause I'm done waiting. I'm going fri. to get enough .064 aluminum to make my own caps. any body ever take this aproach?
I have metal fabricating experience as I used to work for M.A.P.C.O. (aircraft galley and hot water heater manufacturer) I plan on matching the roof radius and bringing it out to the front vertical plane and just welding the seam there and making all corners square instead of radius for ease of fabrication. then do the same on the rear. any nay sayers?

Do it! Not only will it not look like a doggoned eagle, it will have just that more of "you" in it. I would consider some round corners though, probably stronger, looking neater, and no big cost involved.

there's a guy that has a 4905 with front and rear caps that was poorly installed and a roof raise it never was finished and is sitting out side at same place for 12 years at $65 a month it is basicaly junk. just a pretty bad shell I tried to buy it last year for parts but he thinks it's worth something. he pays more a year in storage than I would give him for the bus. too bad those caps are going to waste. I'm just gonna fab my own. I know a good aluminum welder so I'll just cut and form every thing then let him weld it. after looking at the other caps I think I will try to radius the corners as much as I can. I also will build it in place. not build it on the ground and try to fit it after its built.

Ron,

There is a guy who has a 4905 that used the original roof, but just raised it and filled in between w/steel & aluminum. It had a very professional look.

I think it was for sale on another board. It was called something like wayne's woody for the woody look like the old 40's station wagons. I don't think he did the roof raise, but if you can contact him, I'm sure he would know who did.

I will try to e-mail you a couple of pictures when I find them.

Waynes Woody is the one I was referring to earlier. My friend that done that died, but I always loved the look he accomplished. Comically, it is a woody now because of the really bad condition of the siding, and this was an attractive and easy way to make it beautiful. It was also cover gal and centerfold on Bus Conversions magazine. I feel very passionate about that bus, it was its owner that encouraged me and gave me lots of help.

capt. crybaby....everybody sees the same thing different...if I was going to put ALL that labor into it...I'd go hunting an old bus...40's ...50's....& find one with a cute rear end...cut the back two feet off with a sawall & splice it on the back of your bus...some of the older school buses had "style"

You can get "Ball Corners" used in trailer manufacturing in both steel and aluminum and get around having to make them yourself. Check with your area trailer parts distributor such as Redneck ditributing. You only need to know what radius you want. And they are cheap!

I gave that some thought already but didn't want the seam for fiberglass to aluminum. but if I can get them in aluminum then weld them then that's a great option.

Thanks Dr dave
