Asked at our county clerks office about tagging our bus as a motorhome...she didn't have a clue...she proposed that we completely convert bus and show her that it's been converted...Why do we need to tag bus as motorhome in TN?...Is it for insurance reasons or what?..If you tagged a bus conversion in TN please tell us how and what you did.
Thanks
Lorna

Here is an extract from the Federal Definitions:

S4.2.4.1 As used in this section--
(a) Motor home means a motor vehicle with motive power that is
designed to provide temporary residential accommodations, as evidenced
by the presence of at least four of the following facilities: cooking;
refrigeration or ice box; self-contained toilet; heating and/or air
conditioning; a potable water supply system including a faucet and a
sink; and a separate 110-125 volt electrical power supply and/or an LP
gas supply.

This is what the local MVD in Arizona gave to me as 'needed equipment' to register my bus as a motorhome, except they did not require the potty for some reason!!! Perhaps it is legal to go behind a cactus in Az?

I would assume (I know, big mistake!!) that most States are going to follow the same guidelines, perhaps it is a Fed thing and not a State thing anyway.

Perhaps you can use the Fed info to your advantage for once......

Peter.

The reason coaches get tagged as motorhomes is three fold.

No commercial insurance is required you pay $130 a year for liability as MH , about a thousand a month as Coach.

You will not need any special drivers license for a MH , as a coach you will need a CDL with air brake.

The MH will not be subject to DOT , State or Provence Commercial grade inspections.

You will not have to pull in and get inspected , or weighed as trucks {commercial vehicled do}.

Most folks find it worth while to feed the RATS , and do what ever dance the buroRATS want to get the title changed.

Usually its easiest to TELL them that you have to re title as MH.

Rather than ask how its done.

IN FLA it takes under 5 min .
