Detroit Diesel makes a radiator cleaner the is specificcaly formulated for Detroit Diesel engines. It is available at any Detroit Diesel dealer. After you flush the cooling system, Fill with Detroit Diesel antifreeze |

we had this trouble on a 4104 that had sat with just tap water in it. we hooked the hase to it and removed the bottomrad hose to wash out the rad them hooked the water hose to the line going to the front of the bus that is the defrost lines and flushed them. after removing the water hose we blew out as much water from the system that could get, then went to the DD dealer and got some of their rad flush and then ran the engine for 2-3 hours [about130 miles] then we removed the rad and roded it to clean out all the core tubs.we replaced the rad and then went for another short run. then drained the system by blowing out all the drain flush. now you add the GOOD DD antifreeze that has the proper additives that the 6-71 block requires and use only distilled water which you can get at all the groc. stores---do not use tap water--- or all your time will be wasted in about 3 months. be sure to wash the out side of the rad to get all the dust off it as even a little can cause heating problems. the bus lines in our area wash the rads every day during th dry season. mel 4104 |

Jack has the answer , but be SURE to flush flust flush after the 2 part cleaner does its work. Its also best to go 50/50 with antifreez and Distilled water. This cuts down a lot on internal corrosion. Most REAL DIESEL antifreez mfg recomend tossing the antifreez and the chemical flush every 3 years. It works to keep the rest of the chemicals (not just the SCA) fresh enough to do their jobs. Works for me, FAST FRED |
