I have a TRIPP LITE 2000 watt inverter that someone tossed out ? It was mounted inside a compartment on a utility vehicle where a Fire Extinguisher discharged and supposedly destroyed it? An ABC extinguisher is charged with a non- conductive fine powder so I can only see it clogging up the fan motor. I do NOT believe the unit was even turned on so I can't imagine what damage was done to it. The previous owner said that it was NOT WORTH fixing and bought another one. Any ideas or info, please e-mail me loulupo@aol.com. I have a '52 4103 that I haven't run for a few years so I'd like to get working on that too and add this inverter to my set up. Thanks for any info, Lou.

Lou,
The fine white powder used in ABC fire extingushers is very corrosive and will attract moisture. This combination can be deadly to electrical connections and components. This is why Telephone Company switching stations will not allow ABC to be used in case of a fire.
If it was free, I would try to clean it as good as possible with DRY compressed air and use it with the knowledge that it may fail sooner or later. If you have no money in it, you have nothing to loose.

I agree with Jack
Clean it up and inspect the connections and printed circuit well. It may just be dirty.

We never tested the Ansul chemical against ability to carry electricty, or short out the card, but it is a possibility.

If they hit it with CO2, there would be no concern but if they hit it with HALON, then look the unit over very carfully. When HALON contacts copper, it becomes acidic and will eat the copper away. A result that was found after the product was approved for computer rooms. PERFECT!

At the very least, you just have a clean up job and an inverter to use. From there will depend on what you find during your clean up.

They liked the Ansul powder where I worked, but they never had to use in in the work areas of the office, only for drills. I will dare say, that Ansul gets everywhere, being a fine powder. So don't be surprised where you find it on your project.
