i cant get my transmission to shift out of third using the shift lever i have traced the problem to the 3-4 shifting rod somewhere above the rear end. forward of the rear end it come out of the bulkhead and has a fiber type cover over it. both the cover and the rod move back and forth when i operate the shift lever. behind the rear end the rod barely moves where it enters the engine compartment and the covering moves 2 inches in either direction when the shift lever goes from third to fourth and back. i can't see above the rear end itself i wonder if there is a coupling on the shift rod that has come loose or is the rod itself broken? |
