Well, it ain't $, but it's something... maybe. Your struts could support a rod, on each side, with integral curtains, which then supports a regular curtain rod, tied down somehow. The back wall is a hard wall with plumbing... FRP, maybe. I couldn't figure out a simple way to do hard folding sides, even though marine-grade piano hinges and FPR-covered plywood might do it... like a trade-show portable display, but the plumbing and other hinges will be fighting each other. Here's a lazy architect's CAD drawing to help with the visuals... http://www.archtex.com/bus/foldingshower.jpg Now, let's hear it from the neighsayers... Pick it apart! It's worth every penny of the design fee, no doubt. BB |

That would be neat! A HFT pressure washer to feed the cleaning jets! Jump in, close the door, press go and turn three times..done! I like it... |

"I don't like it in purple" Sorry, us architects only see in Blueline... with our ammonia-scented fingers and all. I still miss the true blueprints, white on blue, but they preceeded me by a number of years. BB |

I thought the felt-tip marker and tape measure was all that you need to "eng-in-neer" stuff? In the time it takes some of the CAD guys to design a layout, I have already done the job and moved on. Guys it has to fit in the allocated amount of space.. They don't listen anyway... Then I say " OK smart guy you make it fit! " I still like the PVC Instant pour-table shower idea. Have to find some PVC now to try it. Might paint it purple too...heheheheeee |

Brian, DUDE! That's almost exactly what I envisioned and I can't tell you how GREAT it is to see a blueline representation after all these years!!! Man, I gotta have that font. And is the app something for mortals or hi-end Autocad or the like? Thru the early years of college I wuz a draftsman and got D Size blueprints every day from the in-house lady who ran the machine. I used to love to go over there and watch the machine. It was about 10x15 and 12' tall. I know a guy who was working on some sort of 'smell-a-vision' machine to hook up to the USB port. True multimedia - ammonia & bluelines! Have also thought that the curtain hanger could actually be circular, or spherical so that the drape wraps all the way around, sorta like they way showers were done when they first came out, only smaller. Say 48" diameter. No walls at all! |

I can think of only one thing more inconvenient than a convertible bed and it must be this Rube Goldberg contraption. Buy a bigger bus. Sorry, don't buy this anymore than TD's electric fans. |

Aw, c'mon. JM. Why dedicate 9 s.f. to something used as infrequently as a shower? Most CG's have endless hot water, so I see showers and tubs used as closets more than their intended purpose. Let Chuck-ster do it his way. Chuck, yup it's AutoCAD (only $3k, and a decade or so to learn it). Then run thru Photoshop filters to make the blueline look. As you can imagine, I've run my share of D and E- size blueprints. My first "real" summer job was manning the diazo machine (nothing a big as you describe, tho... WOW). I interned for a civil engineer in Addison. I can still smell the ammonia. I worked my way up to the "boards" and then CAD came along and I haven't drawn hardly anything by hand since. I drove from UTA to the C.E.'s place nearly every day... I-30, Loop 12, LBJ, in the late 80's. Gads, I'm sure the traffic's horrific there now. I, too, thought of the old ring showers when I sketched this. Maybe Restoration Hardware might have something nice in that vein. Hey, it could come down from the ceiling via air power and really annoy JM! Rube and Escher are my heroes, so there's nothing wrong with keeping their spirits alive in our busses. BB |

If the idea behind a folding shower is to have the extra room, just what are you going to use the "extra room" for that wouldn't be PIA to move everytime you wanted to use the shower? --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

Geoff: My point precisely. Many of us consider our bus to be a creation of "creature comfort", so why approach it with anything less in mind? I could see the USA in a 20' Minnie Winnie but I certainly would not be as comfortable. I recognize that everyone has a different "standard" in mind to consider. I just tend to not prefer the "multi-purpose" approach and especially so with "intended for regular use" features. I also don't use tin coffee cups so I can heat my bean soup in them. |

I'd use the "extra room" for hallway or dressing area. Otherwise use FF's idea with the moving closet. My bus isn't a creation of "creature comfort". It's a way to comfortably transport my wife and 4 kids. Install a full tub if you want but even if I had a 40'er I'd still not want to use up the space. With kids you need ROOM. My shower is backed up to a set of bunks and I'm thinking of a drawer in each bunk that slides into the shower. Wanna shower? slide the drawers into the bunks. Simpler idea: Mount a clothes rod next to the ceiling from inside the shower to the wall above the toilet. Normally the clothes are hanging in the shower but when it's time to use it you slide the clothes down the rod till they are hanging over the toilet. Jason Whitaker 4104 |

Well I am kicking myself now. When we bought our first house it had one of those claw foot tubs with the shower kit. When we remodeled the bathroom I threw it in the junk pile. |

Rube Goldberg stands in front of an x-ray and sees an idea inside his head showing how to keep shop windows clean. Passing man (A) slips on banana peel (B) causing him to fall on rake (C). As handle of rake rises it throws horseshoe (D) onto rope (E) which sags, thereby tilting sprinkling can (F). Water (G) saturates mop (H). Pickle terrier (I) thinks it is raining, gets up to run into house and upsets sign (J) throwing it against non-tipping cigar ash receiver (K) which causes it to swing back and forth and swish the mop against window pane, wiping it clean. If man breaks his neck by fall move away before cop arrives. http://www.rube-goldberg.com/ |

On the folding shower base idea... The "purple" drawing shows the drain in the middle of the base and folds up... what do you do with the hole in the floor when the base is up? NOW, The old pull man trains used to have the drain pan in the rear of the bowl, when you folded the dish up, the water drained out. Simple Another thought, could put the drain line out the side at the hinge pivit, or if you have a pump to pump out the accumulated water, the hose could be routed accordingly. It seems to me that that small Fleetwood(?) RV uses this type of folding shower exactly, so it isn't a new science. This particular RV is not much larger than the old VW bus campers, I'm sure you all have seen it. Only thing I didn't care for was when it was unfolded for use, it blocked the hallway to the bedroom. Yea, well I guess its just me. cd |

Good ideas, CD. I had thought of something like a 'floor plug' instead of a 'sink plug' to cover the hole, but the notion of rear drain w/flexible hose might make even more sense. I've seen a folding toilet before but not a base. I never thought it was a completely original idea - I don't have too many of those! Maybe I should pay more attention to small RV's after all, huh? And blocking isn't a problem at all, in fact it's a benefit in my case. To use the generally useless hallway cuft for something productive. And being at the rear I don't have to worry about thru traffic. |
