There was a recent thread on pocket doors. One of you guys used drawer slides to hang the doors which sounds like a good idea, especially since it worked so well. My question is- how wide is your door. The longest slides that I have found is 28 inches. That seems narrow for a door. Did you use 2 opposing doors that meet in the middle or did you find longer slides than I have?

Stanley makes a pocket door overhead rail and roller kit for up to 36"door. U can also buy the closet sliding door track kits and modify them for use with pocket doors. Pocket doors in my Grumman are 28", 3/4" Birch ply, framed w/hardwood. You can also get full extension drawer slides up to 36". You find them at better hardware stores and good local lumber yards that cater to cabinet makers and wood workers, i.e., someplace that deals in hardwoods and cabinet grade plys.

You'll be hard-pressed to go much over 28" for a center-aisle door in a coach and still have much room on the sides for built-ins. Plus, some coaches will have roofline obstructions within that same dimension when the door is open.

Pockets are more efficient becuase they don't have jamb stops and door handle obstructions of swinging doors, so you can get by with fewer inches.

Try rockler.com for all sorts of woodworking hardware.

Tony ......Ace is the one who used drawer slides for his pocket doors, everyone says they work really great, i'm not sure but i think he used 3/4 inch plywood for the door and covered it with material that matched his interior, I believe i'm going to use the same for my doors, when i get to that point. I'm not sure who wide his doors were..............Pat

I have two pocket doors in my RTS, one closes off the side aisle entrance to the bathroom, the other one closes off the bathroom from the bedroom. The second one uses two doors that come together in the middle. I used drawer slides on the bottom of the doors but had to use the channel and wheels for a sliding closet door to hold the door up at the top. The material I used was 3/4" oak plywood for the doors and the door enclosures with solid oak ends. It is not a good idea to use regular plywood as it warps. Hardwood plywood has more layers so it doesn't warp so easily.

thanks for the info. I am putting the cart way before the horse. My wife is still unwilling to give up the 4 slides on our 5th wheel, but I am still working on her. I like the idea of pocket doors. My avion has them and they take up no room, and are never in the way.
