I can put my hands on a 2005 D4500 with a C13 engine and 10 speed ZF transmission but I hear horrible things. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you
-
I don't think a 2005 model has the regen system that gave problems like the later model I had Cat equipment that used the C13 they never gave me a problems and we worked 7 days a weeks 10 hrs a day

Bad comments you have heard might be in relation to the C12 CAT, not the 13. The C12 has a poorly designed cam follower roller / pin / arm. The roller pin is brass and press fits into the pivot arm side frames which are only about 3/16 in wide on each side of the roller. Consequently the roller pin has a history of getting loose in the arm, wearing the ends of the pin off, turning loose of the roller which usually winds up getting driven thru the side of the block by the cam. Had one in our fleet that I caught in time last year when I started hearing valve train noise (like clanking metal) accompanied by a slight miss. Roller pin had not yet been completely worn away on the ends, but had enough slack to allow follower arm to hit on the cam lobe trashing the cam.

Is it for parts or a "driver"? Any chance you might share info if you decide not to go for it?. Tks

Thanks for info...don't know if I would buy from Go again.
Both myself and a friend bought units from them about 9 years ago...
Mine sheared the blower drive in Winnipeg and his engine
failed just outside Calgary. Both had less than 100,000 Kms on rebuilds.
Mind you, maybe they pay more attention when rebuilding now...
-
I feel better now that I didn't go for it ;D They were all between 15 and 269000 km on rebuilts but like you said who knows
-
My friend had a 2007, the crankshaft broke, which also happened to a bunch of them at the last company I worked for! Notorious for breaking cranks! I sometimes wonder if that was a reason for CAT getting out of the road market!
-
Don't think their out of the road market Jack

They did leave the truck market but not because of a bad product, they weighed the options of spending large amounts of cash to keep up with the EPA crap and plus with all the truck manufactures going to there own engines they decided it wasn't worth it, that good engine in heavy equipment and pre-2006 in trucks
I had one in haul truck set at 550 hp it carried the mail and would deliver it too I got a lot better service from it than I did the series 60 DD or the N14 Cummins

I think I saw somewhere there back in and in their own cat trucks?
-
I read some place Lee where International and Cat are building those vocational trucks for export only
-
Thanks Clifford, I saw some pictures of them and they looked pretty nice. I wonder if this country ever gets its head out of its ass if they will be back, hope so, I like Cats.
-
I've seen the Cat trucks on the road out here.
-
I have seen a few under concrete mixers here also but my understanding is the EPA is giving them crap about using the tier 4 engine and vocational rating skirting around the EPA rulings for highway trucks at least that what I was told over at Cashman Cat in Vegas, they sent all theirs to South America some where
