My town has gone crazy with 5 ton weight limit signs on nearly every road. Even my road now has a 5 ton limit sign. Yet school buses, garbage trucks, ups trucks and more drive on them every day. Anyone experience this in their town? It's not a bridge weight safety issue it's trying to keep commercial trucks out I guess or something. It just seems ignorant to me be they are everywhere now.

Motorhomes aka bus conversions are exempt from commerical truck limits on residential streets.

It doesn't say no trucks or commercial vehicles, all they say are "5 ton weight limit"

We have this every spring in our area. It is to do with the frost leaving the roads but if you live there no problem driving on the roads.

Is 5 ton axle limit or gross weight we have it on some bridges here per axle
-
Since it doesn't say per axle, or per vehicle, who knows.... Maybe it's per tire? :)

My city put up a 25,000lb weight limit on the street at the entrance to my development for about 6 months then it was replaced with one of those "No Trucks" signs.
About 4 months later I was informed that the bus was too big for the area.
I asked what was the determining factor in it being too big. I got a lot of run around on the answer. Nobody knew what the weight limit was and I wasn't going to tell them the weight of the bus until they gave me an answer. I was told that "too big" was whatever they determined was "too big"
I was finally told from a friend of mine on the police force that one of my neighbors had complained to the mayor about the noise of the bus. After a new mayor was elected and because I try to be more quiet coming and going with the bus I haven't heard from anyone for over a year now....

I always wonder when I cross a bridge with 24,000 weight limit with my bus(24,600) how good was the state employee that set that limit or do I tear down bridge.

We have had a few bridges that have been downgraded to 5 Tons because they are in need of structural repairs.
