Re-registration
« on: March 03, 2012, 07:01:41 AM »
Ian when you changed the board I had to re-register because my name password nor email address was found. Now I am demoted to newbie.  This may also cause two accounts to be created and I don' want to take up more space than needed.  Like the board by the way Thanks for all that you do. Been enjoying this board since 1993 or 94. Rod

Rod at the top of the Page when you got here. Heck Some of us helped set up the new board and even we had to start by re-registering.

Welcome everyone! Migrating from the old board couldn't be easier. Simply Register here by using the button on the navigation bar immediately below this message, fill in just a few lines and you're good to go. To make it easy for yourself, just use your old username and password to Register here! Welcome Aboard :~)

There is no longer any newbie etc. tags so everyone will just be Busnuts helping each other with their Hobby, Building and converting Buses!

There are just members, moderators, and administrators.

Everyone is resetting to zero posts.

Maybe we should ask Ian to shut post counting off all together?

As mentioned elsewhere, there are times when the advances in software simply make it impossible to carry forward the data from the old.

And when switching between software manufacturers, over this many years, it is very impossible.

That is why the archives are staying put in the old board software, safely locked down in a read-only format.

And why we all have to register again, using the REGISTER tab in the blue line of tabs.

Then you are good to go, as you are now.

Those familiar with these matters will assure us that this new Simple Machines BBS software is the correct choice for BNO and has all the appearances of being well supported for years to come.

Same as your computer operating system and other software, there are people constantly updating the software as those nefarious actors find ways to hack into it. That ended for the old software, Ian had little choice, otherwise BNO was at risk of being hacked. You see the unauthorized posters that have appeared almost instantaneously with starting the new BBS? See my new thread for more on that. Suffice to say, the old board received hundreds and hundreds of registration attempts per month, all invisible to us readers. This is the way of the internet.

happy coaching!

Sorry I read that box at the top and it said nothing about re-registering at the time I read it. It does say re-register now and problem is solved. I apologize for even bring it up. I mistakenly thought that everything would migrate.   Wrong again!!  Nothing new.   Rod

Rod,

Happy to have you solve the mystery of registration! Welcome aboard :-)

Actually, the message at the top did say to register here. It said in order to make it easy, you could just register the same username and password which you had used on the other board. A number of people stumbled on the same instruction, so I expanded it to be more concise.

Again, good that you're here!

News:Welcome everyone! Your old Username and Password WILL NOT WORK HERE. You MUST "REGISTER" on this new board by using the "REGISTER" button on the navigation bar immediately below this message, fill in just a few lines and you're good to go. To make it easy for yourself, just use your old username and password to "REGISTER" here! There is also a whole article written to assist you. Scroll down to the section entitled BNO BBS Help and click on "Stuff You Need to Know" and read the "REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS" article. Welcome Aboard :~)

Ah. . . is what I've highlighted in red not MORE confusing??  Me thinks it's as clear as mud!

Shouldn't it say something like:  "Your old Username and Password will NOT work here if you try to LOGIN before registering on this new board.   This new software doesn't know you exist yet, so you have to register first.  Click the REGISTER button on the navigation bar immediately below this message.  When the new screen pops up,  you can Re-register using your old Username and Password if you like, or create a new one.  After re-registering, you should be able to login without any problems."

More tweaking. . .

RJ, You're a genius. I used your very wording... now let's see if everyone will read all the way through it! LOL!!

Thanks all. Today, I'll actively work on a new Captcha routine so it will confound the bots. Wish me luck  ;) ???

RJ & Ian I know I know try this. this should do it. I had to elaborate, I just did. Dave5Cs!!!............

News:Welcome everyone!
Your grandmother's Username and Password WILL NOT WORK HERE. You MUST "RE-REGISTER" on this wonderfully spectacular new Busnut board by using the "REGISTER" button on the navigation bar immediately below this message, fill in just a few lines SWING A DEAD CHICKEN OVER YOUR HEAD while standing on one leg with both eyes shut and you're good to go. To make it easy for yourself, just use someone else s username and no password to "REGISTER" here! There is also a whole article written to assist you that seems to have no effect on anyone here. Scroll down to the section entitled are you going to your bus now to hide & BNO BBS Help and click on "Stuff You Need to Know and should be able to figure out someday soon hopefully" and read the "REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS" 26 times but not 27, Nor 22, It must be 26. Welcome Aboard put your seat back and be prepared I@NS driving and the Bus is equipped with a24V 124 DD and here we go :~) 8)
