GM Bus window glaze

Is there a source for the GM bus side window glaze seal strips?  The sliding aluminum frame side windows.

The closest I have been able to find, without help from a glass expert looking at my sliders is;

I may have to order a few different samples from dkhardware to find the perfect fit as they offer a few other slight width differences.

Luke already supplied me my outer window seal, the felts, and rubber internal seals.

Has anyone replaced their D windows?

The rubber trim on mine has turned white, like clay, and looks to be very brittle.

My passenger side window rattles in the frame as you drive.

Replace that turned gray D window gasket now. Lost the whole window, it
just blew out on the trans Canada hwy last summer and became a million
crack piece of limp glass. Sacrificed the shower curtain for the hole until we found a piece of plexiglass to tape in until we got home. 06 Bill

So do we know the measurements of the glass thickness, track depth, and width?   I have one that needs glass due to a crack, and one more that needs glass because it has Lexan in it instead of glass.  It looks so different, it says DOT approved and a bunch of numbers, but I hate it and I'm glad they are not all Lexan.

Is there a soured for the D window seal?  I need to change the destination sign and it looks to be the same seal as the D

When i had my 4106 i replaced both D windows. With tined safty glass. There is a glass shop here in San Antonio TX. (East End Glass) 800-281-1353  www.eastendglass.com  I think what they need is a patern made of what ever. Paper is good. That's what i did. It was 1/4 inch safty glass. For the seal. I used regular windshield rubber seal with the regular rubber lock. You could not even tell it was windshield seal. You do have to compensate for the thicker seal. And make adjustments on your patern. It worked for me.

 I did the same thing 15 years ago, standard "lock & key" rubber works, as in most cars.. My local glass shop cut new pieces using the old as patterns and installed them for a decent price.. If using plastic,,, don't use Lexan,, it is stronger (not needed) but scratches very easily.. Acrylic plexi is way strong enough and will resist scratching ten times better than Lexan (allmost all general aviation aircraft uses Acrylic).>>>Dan

I looked up universal windshield seal.   There are many different designs and measurements.  If its possible can someone please point me to one that would work.  I don't want to take out the glass until I have everything here to put the new in.  I'd prefer not to pay a shop to install it the first time, I save that option until after I break the first one myself, that way it costs me twice as much and teaches me an expensive lesson....

I have an appointment Tuesday to get my two windows replaced.  I'm afraid it's going to be the start of a project of just doing them all.  I took the side slider pane to a local glass shop.  He stocks the Laminate in three colors/tints.  Grey, green, and none.  $75 for each installed.  I'm going to have him do the cracked one, and the lexan weird looking one.  Then I'm going to get a price if I just have him cut the glass and if I buy the glaze strip from him.  If his labor is more than $20 I'll probably do it myself for all the other windows a couple at a time.  Anyway I can't just see me only getting two done.  I'll want them all new.  Many of them have scratches, slight fogging on the edges and some little delamination bubbles at the edges.  I'm going to polish up the aluminum on the ones he's doing before I take them to him.  Anyway it will be a trial run.  If anything I can get the glaze trim strips from him, or at least a measurement and part number.

Anyone with a 4104 that has the great opening drivers window remember I have  the rubber gasketing that goes between the glass and the window frame.

Scott, that stuff should all be available somewhere. Toronto only just parked the last of their TDH 5307's last year, and there are still Canadian properties running the last of them.

The heavy rebuild facility completely refreshed the windows on every cycle through the re-build, stripped right down and everything replaced as needed, glass, glaze, sliders, gaskets. the windows were silent, no rattles, and smooth operating when they left the facility.

Somewhere, someone has stock on a shelf.

I got two window panes done today. $75  for glass and Assembly, actually I had one done for $75 and the second I paid $65 for the glass and glaze strip.  I figured I would try it to save $10 per pane.  I saved ten dollars, but it took me about 4 hours of cussing to do it.  So forget that $75 for the rest.  It looks amazing, and now I will slowly get them all done a couple at a time.  The aluminum cleaned up great just by hand rubbing with chrome polish. 




It was dark out when I got them in so I'll take a photo tomorrow of them in the bus.

A quick word of advice...

Ok so the window I replace the new glass into the frame has a problem.  The window I took out was lexan and had some damage.  The aluminium was dented where something scraped accross it.  So in order to get the glass into the frame I used a screwdriver to pry the dented spot out.  The new glass then slid into place.  I guess I didn't bend it far enough because the heat/cold expansion has now cracked the new glass right where the dent was/is on the frame. - Things that make you say...
