Welcome everyone! Welcome aboard. Enjoy :~)
« on: February 28, 2012, 07:22:47 PM »
Hi everyone and welcome!

Thank you for coming over to our new bulletin board system! It probably surprised you that you clicked the same old link and ended up here, right? Or did you go to the old board and see everything missing except that one last message directing you over here.

No matter, you're here now and we're extremely pleased that you made the trip.

Firstly, to those of you who feel that something shouldn't be changed unless absolutely necessary and find yourself thinking of that old axiom, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", well... truth is, the old bulletin board system was very broken and had been for some time.

Back in December of 2000, we purchased that old software which was a pretty state of the art system at the time and configured it to look and act like the rest of our web site. After about 9 or 10 years, it became evident that the old system had become outdated and clunky, even using old computer code to make it run. If any of you are familiar with cgi scripts, that's what fed the other machine... and still does.

Problem was, the company that invented the software stopped supporting it, probably having made a fortune in having sold it worldwide to millions of web authors like us. Now, it has been invaded by all sorts of spam-bots, little pieces of script trying to invade the registration system and creating havoc with the whole board. Not to worry, the entire board has been locked down and backed up in whole and is saved on no fewer than 3 of my own computers, a virtual backup system, a backup drive used solely for that purpose and The Cloud! Nothing will ever happen to the over 130,000 messages the old board gathered.

Ok, it was broke and now its fixed! Everybody say YEAYAH!!

Anything look familiar? Yeah, we thought so, too. Intentional? Yep. Do you remember our survey? It was evident that the preferred look and functionality for the bulletin board should be corrected to appear more like, and work more similarly to, the bulletin board hosted by Bus Conversions Magazine's web site, www.busconversions.com. That was the easy part. It's a freeware product called Simple Machines Forum or SMF for short. It's supported like Wikipedia and Open Office, for example. The software is free to download and it is supported by a huge team of volunteers who ensure it runs perfectly all the time. It is, today, the professionals' choice for forum software. We did this so as to not add confusion to anyone's life by adding yet another style or type of bulletin board software. We not only copied the BCM forum style, but we also copied the style of over 45 million other web sites using this same software.

Functionality is explained in another thread. Please read everything in these instruction sets before beginning.

Now, go forth, enjoy, make smilies, figure out what's the same and what's new and, by all means, add your comments to THE BOARD. You can still read and search for information on the other board here www.busnut.com/bbs. Also, if you've seen our home page and the old board, you will have noticed that we changed the name and graphical representation of it to the "BNO BBA - BNO's Bulletin Board Archive". Please bookmark this new bulletin board as it is now here at www.busnut.com/forum.

Thank you for joining us here. Welcome to the new home of the BNO BBS. And WELCOME ABOARD!

Ian

Thank you Jack. I think you knew I had something like this in my mind when we were chatting in Florida during the Arcadia Rally, right? Thanks for joining, brother  :)

I have not explored all the headers, but am impressed with the new colours and familiar format.
Thank you for all your efforts.

When you said to get prepared for a nice change,
I shined my shoes on the back of my pants and brushed my dentures and polished my dome.
Thought for sure you were sending me a new girlfriend or something.
In retrospect , for this old man , this board may be
easier to keep up to.
Again thank you
Bob

It's different but I guess we will get used to it. Till I do I feel the old board was more user friendly. Easier to see new posts.

Glad you went this way SMF I have a SMF site and had to wipe it clean because of the WEB BOTS.
I  Got at least 100 new members a day at the worst.

Once wiped clean the web bot registrations went way down.

You will likely keep a better eye on it than I did and you know what your doing and I didn't when I started it,  It never came back to what it was....  my bad.
