TV buses

Most large remote TV vehicles were bus conversions in the late 40s/50s, some built from scratch, like Gilligs that the KTTV color Cruiser was based or based on GMs that I shot a big fight in the 70s with Smoking Joe Frasier and other tv remote vehicles, lvmci...

Tom
I have seen a couple of tv busses in my neck of the woods.  The first one was an MCI 35 footer used as a mobile studio with a very heavy hitch that was used to drag a large powerplant that provided the necessary juice for the AC and the power required for all the tube powered equipment. When I saw it the shell was empty but had no miles on it and was bought for 12K. I don"t recall that it had a roof platform. That must have been 20 years ago.
The second was a 35ft Prevost with a tag axle that was open inside from bagage bay  floor to roof ceiling.  It was was converted to motorhome by a local fellow and he did a beautifull job on it.  Both I believe were used by the national networks.
                                                                                                                                                               Joe.

An added note, They would have had to provide a point to point microwave link  so they would have had a roof platform.
Ah microwave engineering, them were the days. I am reminissing now about what we were doing more than a half century ago.
                                                                                                                                              Joe.

Yes long history of using bus conversions for TV studios, between bread trucks with 1 or 2 cameras to the behemoths of my era 1970 and beyond, with 4 cameras, now up to 17 cameras,  thanks, tom lvmci...

Was just watching that Holleywood uses a lot of Verde's RV's for the stars to use while they are on shoots and they are setup on location as well as on lots. Tom I guess that is their new TV bus RV's? Now. They are pretty decked out. Didn't know they used Buses pretty interesting. Love the pics with the camera guy on top. Hey was that you? LOL :)

Hi Dave, no, wasn't me, last time I was on top of a TV truck was Redd Fox's Sanford and Son, where he was thumbing out in the desert, after loosing everything at Caesars Palace.  It was on top of a GM Motorhome, called the video mobile. I did work out of a GM Buffalo TV Mobil Bus, doing a boxing match behind Caesars, with Smoking Joe the heavyweight, first show with a walk in from the boxers dressing room...

Before TV Buses, there was Radio buses, WGM & WCAR, I've run across mostly Flxibles and Crown  buses as frames for broadcasters, why so few MCIs and GMs,35'ers? lvmci...

Not really TV busses, but I found some interesting old music bus photos on a recent trip to Nashville.

The first one is converted into a food truck outside the Grand Ole Opry

The next one is a display at the country music hall of fame

The last one is from Earnest Tubbs record shop
