The Sinopec oil data sheet does NOT specify an sulphated ash number. This is problematic for a Detroit Diesel 2 stroke, low sulphated ash has been a consistant requirement for the oils, throughout history for them. There are many 40 wt oils that meet CF2, yet have high sulphated ash. It is a warning sign that they don't list it.

http://sinopeclubricants.com/v/vspfiles/downloadables/pds-D-STRACF40-SD.pdf

For the Miles 40 wt oil, from Amazon, the sulphated ash is 0.78:

Miles All Spec 40W Miles Monograde Heavy Duty Xhd Diesel Engine Oils are high quality low ash engine oils formulated for diesel engines where ash deposits are a problem. The low ash content reduces ash deposits and helps keep intakes clear. Miles Monograde Heavy Duty Xhd Diesel Engine Oils are Api licensed and exceed Api Cf-2 and Cf requirements. They are recommended for applications requiring Mil-L-2104E and former Api categories Ce, Cd-II and Cd. Advantage Monogrades 30 and 40 also meet the requirements of former Api category SJ, and 10 meets Allison C-4 and Cat To-2. TYPICAL PROPERTIES: CCS, cP( @ -20°C) -,Viscosity, cSt @ 100°C 15.0, Viscosity, cSt @ 40°C 143.0, Viscosity Index 107, Pour Point, °F -11, Sulfated Ash, Wt. (%) 0.78, Total Base No., (D2896) 7. Well I learned that Tractor supply no longer carries our
Delo 40, in my area, can't even order it. but NAPA does. And will in the near future. This is no mention to offend, but watch these new formulas that are coming out, with specs that the manufacturer claims meet and exceed other brands. Especially if they claim multi grade compatibility, that's usually the gotcha, no multi grade performs like a single grade, and no single grade will perform like a multi grade. Again this post is not to offend or downgrade any other post, just what I've learned in the last 50 years, don't really count the first 20.

Read the API symbol doughnut to be sure I find the doughnut symbol to be a little shady on some like the on the Amsoil 15/40 with a CF-2 rating.
The major brands are going to cost more because they have been tested and approved by Detroit and Miles does not show up on the list.
I am a devoted and loyal fan of Delvac 1240 guy for a 2 stroke especially for the 92TA series

Called Carson in Oregon. Shipping kills any saving.

Chevronlubricants.com showed local source for Delo 100 40wt. 6 miles away and $82/5 gal pail out the door.

Standard procedure is to use CF2 rated low ash  monograde 40 W oil. I did when I had my 2 stroke. But it has come to my attention that Amsoil 15W40 Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Oil is one of the very few CF2 rated synthetic oils. It also has an ash content of 1.4%. Amsoil makes another oil with less than 1% ash called DME but its unclear if it is CF2 rated. CF2 rating is paramount with the 2 stroke. I know of a bus that has logged 800K on a 8V92 with only one rebuild not too long ago. It has always run on 15W40 Amsoil Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine oil. The original owner was involved with NASCAR.

                        -15W-40 Multigrade Lube Oil-
While scanning through the GMC V-71 Operators Manual (pn6SE323;rev.12/78) on page 72, I ran across this jewel:
(verbatim) Detroit Diesel Allison now approves and recommends the use of the new generation 15-40 lubricating oils, providing the following ash limits, zinc requirements, oil performance levels, and conditions are met.

1.The sulfated ash (ASTM D-874) content of the lubricant shall not excede 1.000% by weight, except lubricants that contain only barium detergent-dispersal salts where 1.5 by weight is allowed.

   2. The lubricant shall meet the performance requirements shown in API Service Classifications CD/SE.

   3. The zinc content (zinc diorganodithiophosphate) [yes, I spelled it right!] of all the lubricants recommened for use in Detroit Diesel engines shall be a miinimum of 0.07% by weight. However the zinc requirement is waived where EDM lubricants are used.

(The EDM spec lubes are for diesel/electric railway engines.)

                             -Synthetic Oils-

Synthetic lubricants may be used in Detroit Diesel engines provided the ash limit, zinc requirements, and specified oil performance levels (for example, CD/SE or MIL-L-2104B, etc.) shown elsewhere in this specification are met. Vicosity grades 15W-40 or SAE 40 or SAE 30 are recommended.

Detroit Allison Oil Performance protocols call for a minimum of 200,000 miles of highway use with periodic testing done. OTR trucks and inter-city busses were cited as the most extreme conditions.
All of the above is directly quoted from the manual and any seeminly odd syntax is solely Detriot Allison's...not mine.

Keeping in mind 1978... the problem was that many oils did NOT meet the composition required.

Today, the ash has been trimmed down in most all the oils, as it plays hell with the diesel particulate filters.

And there's a legalese problem, in that the CF-2 rating doesn't "exist" anymore...

And our Detroit 2-strokes are considered tolerably obsolete....

There won't be anyone doing any research now...

Pick your poison, see how long you last?

Sadly, JJ, that spec is now 40 years old, and has been superseded.  Here's a link to the current specs as provided by MTU/Detroit.  Two-stroke information begins on page 20:

https://www.mtu-online.com/fileadmin/fm-dam/mtu-global/technical-info/fluids_and_lubricants_specifications/neu_01_04_2015/A001061_36E.pdf

Be sure to note the restrictions for the two-strokes as specifically outlined at the top of page 21.

Just purchased two 5 gal pails of Chevron DELO 100 40 WT @ $85.62 each from West Marine. They price matched online price from Alexis Lubricants. I thought that was a decent buy. Was tipped off from a post on the BGM forum in case anyone is interested.
