Paul what engine was that with? I would assume the off the line starts with the 410 or 411 would be really slow.

Slow and Loud
to get rolling with the 6V71
I drove a Fishbowl 8V71 and the VS2-8 and it would jump off the start and I never had it floored and it cruised at 75 MPH
I'm counting on the V730 and the 4:10 to suit my driving styles and life.

I sent Loren an email this morning to see if he had any rear ends or gears, and trans also. Loren was a previous owner of my bus, I think he owned it for like 20 years before he sold it to the movie team, and I think I read that he drove the bus for them for the film too...

Scott, I have a 4.11 out of a MC5C. I could give you more details if you need.

He needs a V-drive axle and differential.
I'm thinking the 6V71 is not going to like a gear much taller than you've got now.
Simply not enough power to pull that high a gear once the headwinds and the road rises ahead of you.
But, assembling all the bits and pieces to make upgrades on your schedule, instead of being forced into it, is good.
If it was me, I'd leave what you've got and just do a V730 upgrade with some trickery to control the torque converter lock-up.
Otherwise, you'll want to be doing an engine power upgrade as well as transmission and diff gears.
happy coaching!

Anyone have a V730 for sale? I think that's where I want to start. I think if I need to do a gear change it would be only a small change not to something aggressive like a 411. Luke mentioned some alterations or modifications he would have to do to get that trans in but that he could. We didn't talk about if he had one though but since he didn't say he did I'm guessing he doesn't, or would have to locate one.

I took the support around the opening and clamped it to my small opening and cut away. Here is the start off the modifications.

This the cut out before reinforcing. I'll let Bill Gerrie Chime in here I believe he did the same thing as above but I think he said " I would have cut the hole bigger if I'd known better " Is that a correct qoute Bill

You are right about removing as much as possible. I just put my V731 back after checking the O/D unit. I made the hole even bigger. I even had to remove an inch of metal at the output shaft end to gain a little more clearance. The driveshaft flange got jambed in there and there was no way I was going to remove the transmission again to free it. Remember you have to put a piece of metal at the bottom of the opening to hold the outside rigid.
Scott
The VS2-8 has too tall a gear for the 6V71. Use the V730 or a VS2-6. You will die on grades if you go too low a number for the rear end as well.
